The Alphabet X spinout Iyo is gearing up to launch its Iyo One earbuds this winter, with prices starting at $599. This announcement comes on the heels of Humane’s co-founders reportedly putting their startup on the market after the underwhelming performance of their Ai Pin. Similarly, the Rabbit R1, Humane’s primary competitor, faced criticism shortly after its release. Reviewers described the generative AI-powered handheld device as “half-baked,” arguing it should have been an app instead of a $200 piece of hardware. The buzz around both devices indicates a significant interest in new form factors leveraging large language models (LLMs) for…
Ireland’s Data Protection Commission (DPC) is investigating recent breaches involving Dell customers’ personal information. Graham Doyle, deputy commissioner of the DPC, confirmed that the DPC has received a breach notification from Dell and is currently assessing the situation. Doyle declined to provide additional comments. A Dell spokesperson also confirmed that the company has notified regulators and will continue to cooperate with them as needed. Last week, Dell informed customers via email about a data breach that involved customer names, physical addresses, and order information. Some of this stolen data included personal information of customers in the European Union. Dell reassured…
TikTok is testing the ability for users to upload 60-minute videos, the company confirmed on Thursday. This feature is available to a limited group of users in select markets, with no immediate plans for a broader rollout. First noticed by social media consultant Matt Navarra, this feature represents a significant shift from TikTok’s original format. Initially, the app allowed users to upload 15-second videos, but it has gradually increased this limit over the past few years. While TikTok gained popularity for its short-form video format, it has been slowly embracing long-form content to compete more directly with YouTube. According to…
OpenAI has finalized an agreement with Reddit to utilize the social news site’s data for training its AI models. In a blog post on its press relations site, OpenAI announced that the partnership will grant it access to “real-time, structured, and unique content”—including posts and replies—from Reddit. This data will help improve the capabilities of OpenAI’s tools and models to better understand and showcase that content. Reddit content will be integrated into ChatGPT, OpenAI’s popular conversational AI, and both companies will collaborate on introducing unspecified new “AI-powered features” for Reddit users and moderators. Additionally, OpenAI will become a Reddit advertising…
Match Group, the parent company of several dating apps including Tinder and Hinge, unveiled its first-quarter earnings report on Tuesday, revealing a decline in Tinder’s paying user base for the sixth consecutive quarter. In contrast, Hinge has experienced growth in its member base willing to pay for the app. Tinder saw a decrease to 10 million paying users in Q1 2024, marking a 9% drop from the previous year, while Hinge’s paying user count rose to 1.4 million, representing a 31% increase year over year. The decline in Tinder’s user base reflects a broader shift in dating app culture toward…
TikTok has unveiled a new feature that automatically labels AI-generated content originating from other platforms, the company revealed on Thursday. With this update, content creators posting material on TikTok generated via services like OpenAI’s DALL·E 3 will see an “AI-generated” label attached, informing viewers that AI technology was used in its creation. This initiative is made possible through the adoption of Content Credentials, a technology developed by the Coalition for Content Provenance and Authenticity (C2PA), co-founded by Microsoft and Adobe. Content Credentials embed specific metadata into content, enabling TikTok to promptly recognize and label AI-generated content. As a result, TikTok…
The graduates of Alliance DAO serve as valuable barometers for investor sentiment and adoption trends in the crypto landscape. The unveiling of the latest batch of the stage-agnostic crypto accelerator comes amidst a backdrop of renewed optimism in the recovering market. Just two months ago, Bitcoin soared to its all-time high, signaling a bullish market sentiment. While the cryptocurrency has since experienced a decline, it continues to trade at significantly higher levels than during the market downturn following FTX’s collapse in late 2022. Venture capitalists are responding to this optimism by injecting capital into web3 startups, driving total fundraising in…
The Rise of Global Attendees at the City’s Web3 Carnival Signals a Shifting Landscape As U.S. regulators intensify their oversight of the crypto realm, industry players are casting their eyes overseas in search of more welcoming environments conducive to their growth. One such destination gaining traction is Hong Kong. Positioned to reclaim its status as a financial hub, the city is leveraging favorable crypto regulations to attract a fresh wave of entrepreneurs, innovators, and investors. And it’s yielding results. In mid-April, Hong Kong’s annual web3 festival drew over 50,000 attendees, with a notable increase in non-Chinese participants compared to previous…

Ever pondered why ChatGPT sometimes politely declines certain requests? OpenAI is providing insight into the rationale behind its AI models’ rules of engagement, whether it involves adhering to brand guidelines or refraining from generating NSFW content. Large language models (LLMs) like ChatGPT lack inherent limits on their responses, making them versatile yet prone to generating inaccurate content. For AI models interacting with the public, establishing guardrails is essential, but defining and enforcing these boundaries is challenging. For example, if someone asks an AI to generate false claims about a public figure, it should refuse. But what if the requester is…
