Instagram is bringing more control to its users by announcing a series of new features aimed at enhancing creative expression and personalization. One of the most highly requested features — the ability to rearrange the posts on your profile grid — is finally being introduced.
Previously, Instagram users could only pin a few posts to the top of their profiles, while everything else remained in strict chronological order. Now, with the upcoming update, users will be able to manually reorder their grid posts. Whether you want to showcase a particular photo or create a visually appealing layout, this feature adds a level of customization that’s been missing for years.
Alongside this, Instagram is testing a feature that allows users to post content to their profiles without having it appear in their followers’ feeds. This means you can share a photo or video to your profile quietly — without broadcasting it to everyone. The company believes this could help reduce pressure for users who feel self-conscious about how their posts perform in terms of likes and views.
Adam Mosseri, Instagram’s lead, explained that the goal is to offer “more flexibility over how your content is shared,” making it easier for users to post without fear of judgment or the need to perform. While the feature may not appeal to influencers and public figures seeking high engagement, it offers a more relaxed way to maintain a curated profile.
A similar concept called “trial Reels” — where creators can test videos without pushing them to followers — has already seen success. Instagram noted that nearly 40% of users who tried trial Reels posted more often, and 80% of those saw their videos reach a broader audience.
Another update includes Spotify integration for Instagram Notes. Users will soon be able to share the song they’re listening to directly through Notes, giving followers a glimpse into their current music tastes in real time.
Additionally, Instagram announced a new creator support initiative called Drafts. This isn’t a traditional creator fund, but a collaborative program designed to help emerging talent. Through this, creators can receive tailored support — including funding, guidance, and opportunities to co-create content — depending on the unique needs of their projects.
These features mark a continued shift toward empowering users with tools for more thoughtful and pressure-free sharing.
