Adobe Expands Firefly With Text-Based Video Editing and New AI Model Integrations

Adobe has rolled out a major upgrade to its Firefly platform, introducing advanced video-editing capabilities driven by text prompts and expanding its lineup of third-party AI models for both image and video creation. The update marks a shift from basic generation tools toward more hands-on creative control.

Previously, Firefly users could only generate videos from scratch using prompts. If a clip needed changes, the entire video had to be regenerated. With the latest update, creators can now fine-tune existing videos by typing specific instructions. The new editor allows adjustments to visual elements such as color grading, lighting, camera movement, and scene details — all without starting over.

A redesigned timeline interface has also been added, making it easier to work with frames, audio, and transitions. This gives Firefly a more traditional editing feel while still relying on AI to speed up the process. Adobe had quietly tested this editor in a private beta earlier this year, and it’s now available to all users.

Firefly now supports multiple AI models under one roof. By using Runway’s Aleph model, users can issue targeted commands like changing weather conditions, adjusting contrast, or subtly zooming in on a subject. Adobe’s own Firefly Video model introduces another creative option: users can upload a reference frame or sample camera movement and instruct Firefly to replicate that motion within their project.

The update also brings enhanced video resolution tools. Through integration with Topaz Labs’ Astra model, creators can upscale footage to Full HD or even 4K quality. Meanwhile, Black Forest Labs’ FLUX.2 image-generation model is now part of Firefly’s ecosystem, offering more stylistic flexibility. Adobe says FLUX.2 is available immediately across Firefly platforms, with Adobe Express support arriving in January. A new collaborative boards feature has also been introduced to support team-based creative workflows.

These additions come as competition in AI-powered media creation intensifies. To encourage experimentation, Adobe is temporarily offering unlimited generations across all image models and its Firefly Video model for users on select subscription plans. This promotional access runs through January 15.

Over the past year, Adobe has steadily evolved Firefly from a single-purpose generator into a full creative platform. The company launched tiered subscriptions earlier in the year, followed by a redesigned web experience, mobile apps, and broader third-party model support — signaling its long-term commitment to AI-driven content creation.
