Snapchat+ Reaches 30 Million Paying Subscribers as Premium Features Gain Popularity

Snapchat’s paid subscription business continues to grow, with the company announcing that Snapchat+ has surpassed 30 million paying subscribers worldwide.

Snap revealed the milestone in its third-quarter 2026 financial results on Wednesday. The achievement represents an increase of approximately 5 million subscribers since February, when the company reported reaching 25 million.

The growth suggests that more Snapchat users are willing to pay for additional features, exclusive experiences, and greater control over how they use the platform.

Snapchat+ Expands Beyond Its Original Subscription

Launched in 2022, Snapchat+ initially offered subscribers early access to experimental features and exclusive customization options for $3.99 per month.

Since then, Snap has expanded its subscription business with additional plans designed to attract different types of users.

    These include:

    • Snapchat+: The standard subscription, priced at $3.99 per month, offering exclusive features and early access to new tools.
    • Lens+: A $8.99 monthly subscription that provides access to premium augmented reality experiences and exclusive Lenses.
    • Snapchat+ Platinum: A $15.99 monthly plan that includes an ad-free experience.

By introducing multiple subscription options, Snap is creating additional ways to generate revenue beyond traditional advertising.

AI Features Are Helping Drive Subscription Growth

Snap CEO Evan Spiegel credited new AI-powered experiences with helping the company’s premium offerings gain traction.

In his letter to investors, Spiegel highlighted the performance of Lens+, saying its subscriber growth had exceeded expectations.

The company believes that creative AI tools and augmented reality experiences can encourage more users to pay for premium features.

Snap also revealed that its 30 million paying subscribers come from several products, including Snapchat+, Memories Storage, and Lens+.

Another important factor behind this growth is the company’s decision to introduce paid storage options for Memories.

Last year, Snap announced limits on free Memories storage, requiring users who wanted additional space to pay for an upgrade or subscribe to an eligible premium plan.

Although the change generated controversy among users, it also created another opportunity for Snap to expand its subscription revenue.

User Growth Falls Short of Expectations

Despite the subscription milestone, Snap’s latest financial results were not entirely positive.

The company reported 495 million daily active users during the third quarter, compared with 493 million in the previous quarter.

However, the figure fell short of analysts’ expectations of approximately 499 million daily active users.

Snap’s advertising revenue growth also remained below the company’s desired target. Following the earnings announcement, its shares dropped approximately 12% as investors reacted to the disappointing advertising and user growth figures.

The results highlight the challenges Snap faces in growing its advertising business while encouraging more users to pay for additional services.

Snap Wants to Focus on Long-Term User Engagement

Spiegel acknowledged that daily user engagement has historically remained relatively consistent compared with monthly activity.

However, the company says it doesn’t want to prioritize daily usage at the expense of long-term value for its community.

Snap believes that improving the overall experience, strengthening user relationships, and offering useful features will support more sustainable audience growth.

This approach could also help the company balance its focus between user engagement and monetization.

    Advertising Remains a Major Challenge

While subscription revenue is growing, advertising remains a critical part of Snap’s business.

Spiegel said the company plans to improve advertising performance and introduce better ways for businesses to connect with Snapchat users.

That includes making advertising more effective for brands while improving the experience for people using the platform.

Snap’s latest results show that its subscription strategy is gaining momentum, but the company still needs to address slower advertising growth and weaker-than-expected user expansion.

Can Snapchat Turn Premium Features Into a Bigger Business?

Reaching 30 million paying subscribers is an important achievement for Snap, particularly as social media platforms look for revenue streams beyond advertising.

The company’s expanding subscription lineup, AI-powered creative tools, and premium storage options are helping it build a more diversified business.

However, with 495 million daily active users, paying subscribers still represent a relatively small portion of Snapchat’s overall audience.

Snap sees that gap as an opportunity for further growth.

The next challenge will be convincing more free users that Snapchat’s premium features offer enough value to justify a monthly subscription, while continuing to improve its advertising business and maintain the interest of its wider community.
