Facebook has introduced a new monetization feature that enables creators to earn money based on the views their public Stories receive. This new opportunity is now available worldwide to those enrolled in the Facebook Content Monetization program.
New Revenue Stream for Creators
With this update, creators can generate income from content they are already producing simply by sharing it on their Facebook Stories. For instance, if someone creates a cooking tutorial or a short-form video, they can post a snippet to their Story and earn revenue from its performance. Additionally, creators can monetize everyday Story content, such as personal updates or behind-the-scenes glimpses of their lives.
A company representative stated that payouts are based on a Story’s engagement and performance, and there is no minimum view requirement to start earning.
Encouraging More Content on Facebook
By extending monetization to Stories, Facebook is providing creators with another way to earn revenue, encouraging them to stay active on the platform. This move aligns with Meta’s ongoing strategy of attracting TikTok creators to Facebook and Instagram by offering financial incentives, exclusive content deals, and resources to help grow their audiences.
For creators already participating in the Facebook Content Monetization program and who have enabled monetization features, the process is automatic—no additional steps are required to activate Story monetization.
Expansion of Facebook’s Monetization Efforts
Facebook first introduced its Content Monetization program last year, consolidating In-Stream Ads, Ads on Reels, and the Performance Bonus program into a single system. After testing Story monetization with select users, the company is now making the feature widely available to all eligible participants.
In early 2024, millions of creators were invited to join the program, and Facebook has announced plans to introduce open enrollment later this year. For those who are not yet part of the program, there is an option to express interest via the program’s website.
Facebook’s Creator Payout Growth
In October 2024, Facebook revealed that creators earned over $2 billion on the platform that year, with payments for Reels and other short-form videos increasing by more than 80%. Since launching its monetization options in 2017, Facebook has paid more than 4 million creators, further reinforcing its commitment to supporting content creators financially.
