Google Meet has rolled out a new AI-driven virtual makeup feature, designed for those moments when you’d rather skip the real makeup but still want to look your best on camera. The update aims to enhance users’ appearance in meetings and brings Google Meet in line with competitors like Zoom and Microsoft Teams, which already offer similar virtual beauty tools.
The feature includes 12 customizable makeup styles, available under the “Appearance” tab within the “Portrait touch-up” section. This section, introduced back in 2023, originally focused on basic visual improvements like skin smoothing, eye whitening, and light correction. With the latest update, Google is taking things a step further by allowing users to apply digital makeup powered by artificial intelligence.
What makes this upgrade stand out is how realistic and stable the virtual makeup appears. According to Google, the makeup filter will stay perfectly aligned with your face, regardless of how you move. Whether you’re turning your head, gesturing, or sipping coffee, the effect won’t slide or distort — a common problem in older virtual filter technologies.
The new AI makeup feature is off by default, meaning users must manually enable it before or during a call. Once you pick your preferred makeup style, Google Meet will save your choices automatically for future meetings, ensuring a consistent appearance every time you join a call.
The rollout for the feature began on October 8, and it is now gradually becoming available on both mobile devices and desktop browsers.
Google’s expansion into virtual beauty features reflects a growing trend in video communication tools — one where users are seeking AI-powered personalization and visual confidence boosts during meetings. These features not only help reduce on-camera stress but also make professional or casual video interactions feel smoother and more polished.
By integrating makeup effects directly into Google Meet, the company continues to leverage AI for user convenience, moving beyond productivity tools to personal expression and comfort. As video meetings remain a daily norm for millions of professionals worldwide, the addition of AI makeup filters marks another step toward making virtual interactions feel more natural — and a little more glamorous.
