OpenAI Expands AI Agent ‘Operator’ to More Countries

OpenAI has announced the expansion of its AI-powered assistant, Operator, to several new regions. This advanced AI agent, designed to complete tasks on behalf of users, is now available to ChatGPT Pro subscribers in Australia, Brazil, Canada, India, Japan, Singapore, South Korea, the U.K., and other countries.

    Availability and Functionality

Operator, which first launched in the U.S. in January, is now accessible in most regions where ChatGPT is offered. However, it remains unavailable in the European Union, Switzerland, Norway, Liechtenstein, and Iceland due to regulatory constraints.

This AI agent can handle various tasks, including booking tickets, making restaurant reservations, filing expense reports, and even shopping online. Unlike the standard ChatGPT experience, Operator functions in a separate browser window, allowing users to supervise and take control at any time.

    Subscription and Future Expansion

Currently, Operator is only accessible to those subscribed to OpenAI’s premium ChatGPT Pro plan, which costs $200 per month. At this stage, users can only interact with it through a dedicated web page. However, OpenAI has stated that it intends to integrate Operator into all ChatGPT clients in the future, making it more widely available.

    Growing Competition in AI Agents

The AI agent space is rapidly evolving, with multiple tech companies developing similar tools. Google, Anthropic, and Rabbit have each introduced their own AI-powered assistants capable of performing comparable tasks. However, Google’s version remains on a waitlist, Anthropic provides its agentic interface via an API, and Rabbit’s system is currently limited to users of its proprietary device.

As OpenAI continues rolling out Operator globally, it remains to be seen how it will compete in an increasingly crowded market.
