Perplexity, the AI-powered search engine looking to challenge Google, has unveiled Perplexity Labs — a versatile tool designed to generate reports, spreadsheets, dashboards, and more. The tool is now available to users subscribed to the platform’s Pro plan, which costs $20 per month.
Currently, Perplexity Labs can be accessed through the web, iOS, and Android, with plans to roll out to the Mac and Windows apps soon.
In a recent blog post, Perplexity described Labs as a feature created to assist users with a variety of personal and professional tasks. Unlike standard AI tools that offer quick answers, Labs is designed to invest more time—sometimes 10 minutes or longer—to complete complex tasks. It utilizes a range of additional tools, including advanced file generation, code execution, and mini-app creation.
The launch of Perplexity Labs coincides with the release of a new slide deck creation tool by another AI platform, Manus. It also marks Perplexity’s ongoing push to expand its offerings beyond search. In recent months, the company has introduced a preview of its upcoming web browser, Comet, and acquired Read.vc, a social platform geared towards professionals.
Perplexity Labs leverages AI to handle in-depth research and analysis. According to the company, it can create interactive web apps, generate structured data, and craft charts, images, and visualizations. The process involves web searches, code generation, and even the application of formulas to help users create high-quality deliverables.
All the content generated through Perplexity Labs — including charts, images, code files, and more — is organized neatly into a dedicated tab, making it easy for users to view and download their files. Perplexity’s blog post noted that these capabilities are intended to help users produce a wide variety of outputs tailored to their projects.
While the concept is promising, the technology may not always deliver perfect results. However, more insights will emerge once users have a chance to put the tool to the test.
Perplexity has been steadily increasing its focus on enterprise tools. Last summer, the company launched a business plan with features like user management and internal knowledge search. Reports suggest Perplexity is currently in discussions to secure up to $1 billion in funding from investors, aiming for an $18 billion valuation.
