Facebook Dating Introduces AI Assistant to Help Users Find Matches

Meta is adding artificial intelligence to its Facebook Dating platform, aiming to make the matchmaking process smarter and less exhausting for users.

The new AI assistant will act as a guide, helping people refine their profiles or even search for specific match types. For example, someone might ask the chatbot to suggest “a Brooklyn girl in tech” or get recommendations on how to improve their bio for better results.

Alongside this, Meta is rolling out a feature called Meet Cute, designed to reduce what many call “swipe fatigue.” Instead of endless scrolling, the tool delivers one surprise match each week, chosen by the system’s algorithm to increase the chance of a meaningful connection.

Meta reports that Facebook Dating has seen some growth, particularly among younger adults. Matches among users aged 18 to 29 are up 10% compared to last year, with hundreds of thousands of new profiles created monthly. Still, the platform remains small compared to industry leaders like Tinder, which boasts around 50 million daily active users, and Hinge, with over 10 million.

The move isn’t surprising, given that AI is already reshaping the online dating landscape. Most major apps have started introducing machine learning to stand out in an increasingly crowded market.

    • Tinder, owned by Match Group, now has an AI-powered photo picker that scans a user’s camera roll to highlight their best images.

    • Hinge lets people enhance their answers to profile prompts using AI, making profiles feel more polished.

    • Bumble has also adopted AI tools, and its founder, Whitney Wolfe Herd, has even suggested that future dating could involve personal AI “concierges” testing compatibility before two people ever meet.

Match Group, which owns Tinder, Hinge, and OkCupid, has heavily invested in this space, striking a partnership with OpenAI and committing over $20 million to develop new AI features. This comes despite financial headwinds for the company, whose stock value has dropped nearly 70% in the past five years.

By introducing its own AI features, Meta is signaling that Facebook Dating won’t be left behind as the industry evolves. Whether users will embrace the AI assistant or see it as another layer of tech between genuine connections remains to be seen. But one thing is clear: artificial intelligence is becoming a standard part of modern matchmaking.
