TikTok is pushing deeper into e-commerce with two new features designed to help users go from discovering a product to buying it without leaving the app.
The company has introduced an AI-powered Shopping Assistant alongside a new in-app checkout option that allows users to purchase products directly from brands with a single click.
AI Shopping Assistant Helps Users Find the Right Products
TikTok describes its new Shopping Assistant as a conversational AI agent built specifically for shopping.
Instead of simply displaying product recommendations, the assistant can interact with users and respond to questions throughout the shopping process. It can provide information about product features, pricing, shipping, sizing, availability, and purchasing options.
The system is also designed to understand the context of a conversation and remember a user’s preferences and requirements as they continue interacting with it.
That could make TikTok more than a place where people discover products. The company wants the platform to become a destination where users can research, compare, and ultimately purchase those products as well.
One-Click Checkout Comes to the For You Feed
TikTok is also bringing purchasing directly into its main For You feed.
Users will be able to buy products from brands without having to leave the feed and navigate through a separate shopping experience. The company says the new checkout feature allows purchases to be completed with a single click.
That creates a much shorter path between seeing a product in a video and actually buying it.
For TikTok, this could also mean capturing more of the overall shopping journey—and potentially more transaction activity—inside its own platform.
TikTok Wants to Keep AI Shopping Inside Its App
The combination of an AI shopping assistant and integrated checkout could give TikTok another advantage: users may no longer need to leave the platform when they have questions about something they see.
Someone discovering a product could ask the AI assistant about its specifications, availability, shipping, or size and then proceed directly to checkout.
That puts TikTok in an interesting position as AI-powered shopping becomes more competitive. Instead of users turning to external AI assistants such as ChatGPT for product research, TikTok is attempting to provide those answers within the same app where the product was discovered.
Partnerships Expand TikTok’s Commerce Infrastructure
The new shopping tools are being developed with several commerce and payment companies, including Salesforce, Shopify, Shoplazza, and Stripe.
The expansion also takes TikTok beyond its existing TikTok Shop marketplace.
TikTok Shop remains an important part of the company’s e-commerce strategy, but the new features integrate shopping more directly into the wider TikTok experience rather than keeping purchases inside a dedicated shopping section.
The goal is effectively to turn product discovery throughout the platform into a potential sales opportunity.
TikTok’s Shopping Influence Keeps Growing
TikTok’s move comes as the platform continues to have a growing impact on consumer shopping behavior.
According to TikTok’s latest economic impact figures, activity on the platform contributed around $81 billion to U.S. business GDP, while 54 million Americans said they had purchased a product after seeing it in a TikTok video.
TikTok Shop launched in the United States in September 2023, and research firm eMarketer estimates that it generated approximately $15.8 billion in U.S. sales during 2025.
That represented roughly 18% of the country’s social commerce market.
With AI now helping users make purchasing decisions and checkout moving directly into the For You feed, TikTok is positioning itself not just as a place to discover products, but as a platform where the entire shopping journey can happen from start to finish.
