Google has introduced a range of new artificial intelligence features powered by its Gemini model, bringing smarter tools to Docs, Sheets, Slides, and Drive. These updates aim to help users work more efficiently by allowing them to create documents, presentations, and spreadsheets directly within Google Workspace using information from their existing files, emails, and chats.

One of the most notable additions appears in Google Docs. A new feature called “Help me create” allows users to describe what they want to build, and Gemini will generate a structured first draft based on that description. The AI can pull relevant details from Gmail, Drive, and Chat to produce a complete document. For instance, someone could ask the tool to prepare a community newsletter using meeting notes and upcoming event information stored in their files.

Once the initial version is ready, users can refine individual sections rather than recreating the entire document. Another option, “Help me write,” assists with improving clarity, expanding ideas, or adjusting wording. Google has also added a “Match writing style” tool, which helps maintain a consistent tone in documents created by multiple contributors. A formatting feature allows users to replicate the layout of an existing document and apply it to new content automatically.

Gemini is also gaining stronger capabilities in Google Sheets. Instead of simply assisting with formulas, the AI can now generate complete spreadsheets from a prompt. It can collect relevant information from emails, chats, and documents to organize tasks or data. For example, users planning a move could ask the system to create packing lists, contact directories, and expense trackers all in one spreadsheet.

Another new option called “Fill with Gemini” helps populate tables quickly. It can generate text, summarize information, categorize entries, or even pull updated data from Google Search. This could be useful for tasks like tracking college applications, where the AI can automatically fill in deadlines, tuition costs, and other details for different schools.

Google Slides is receiving similar enhancements. Users can now ask Gemini to generate individual slides that match the design of an existing presentation. The AI draws context from files, emails, and online sources to create relevant content. Future updates may allow entire presentations to be created from a single prompt.

Finally, Google Drive is evolving beyond simple file storage. With Gemini integration, users can search their files using natural language and receive AI-generated summaries of the most relevant documents. A feature called “Ask Gemini in Drive” also allows users to ask questions about their stored files and receive answers based on the information inside them.

These new capabilities are currently rolling out in beta for Google AI Pro and Ultra subscribers.
