Spotify has unveiled a new feature called User Notes, giving listeners a fresh way to make their playlists more meaningful. Instead of simply collecting songs, users can now attach personal notes to individual tracks, helping them remember the stories, emotions, and experiences connected to the music they love.
The feature is designed to capture the moments behind a song. Whether it’s a track that reminds you of a memorable vacation, a favorite road trip, or the soundtrack to an important life event, you can now save those memories directly alongside the music. For example, a user might note that a song was discovered during a late-night drive, played at a wedding, or became their favorite while studying for exams.
With User Notes, Spotify aims to transform playlists into something more than just music collections. Instead, playlists become digital journals that reflect personal experiences and milestones. According to the company, these notes help create a richer listening experience by adding context that would otherwise be forgotten over time.
This move also helps Spotify stand out in the competitive music streaming market. While platforms such as Apple Music and YouTube Music focus primarily on recommendations and playback, Spotify is introducing a feature centered on storytelling and personal memories, giving listeners another reason to stay within its ecosystem.
Using the feature is simple. Users can open any playlist they have created—or one where they have added songs—tap the three-dot menu beside a track, and choose “Add note.” After writing and saving the note, it will appear alongside the song for anyone who has permission to view the playlist. The author’s name is also displayed and links directly to their Spotify profile.
Initially, User Notes is rolling out to listeners aged 16 and older in selected regions. Both free and Premium subscribers can use the feature where it is available.
Spotify also announced another addition for fitness enthusiasts. A new Running Mode automatically builds playlists that match different stages of a workout while adjusting song selections based on a user’s listening habits and running pace. This feature is currently limited to Premium subscribers in select countries.
Together, these updates highlight Spotify’s continued effort to make music streaming more interactive and personal. By combining smart recommendations with features that preserve memories, the platform is evolving beyond simple music playback into a place where users can document the moments that define their lives through music.
