If you’re stuck at work but want to embrace the holiday spirit, Festivitas, a delightful macOS app, can bring festive cheer to your computer screen. This creative app decorates your Mac with twinkling holiday lights that dangle from your menu bar and illuminate your dock.

The app was developed by Simon B. Støvring, a software creator known for crafting popular tools like the text editor Runestone, the scripting app Scriptable, and JSON editor Jayson. In the days leading up to the release of Festivitas, Støvring teased its features on social media, showcasing its customization options.

Festivitas allows users to personalize their holiday display in several ways. You can adjust the cable’s thickness, light size, spacing, drop height, and width. Additionally, you can modify the flashing patterns, adjust flash speeds, and choose between colorful or white lights. If the lights are too distracting, you have the option to disable them entirely in either the dock or menu bar.

For example, if the dock lights interfere with your ability to monitor important notifications, you can easily turn them off during your workday. Similarly, if the menu bar lights obstruct your browser tabs, you can adjust their drop height to keep them above your workspace.

To use Festivitas, you’ll need macOS 14.6 or later. Once installed, the app requires a quick toggle in your Mac’s Accessibility settings to activate. Afterward, the lights will appear on your screen, and you can fine-tune their appearance to match your preferences. Turning them off is just as simple—quit the app from the menu bar or dock when you’re ready.

Festivitas is available for download on a pay-what-you-want basis from its official website, allowing users to choose how much they’d like to contribute. So far, customers have been paying anywhere from €4 to €30 for this cheerful addition to their desktop experience.

With Festivitas, even a busy workday can feel a little brighter and more festive, transforming your Mac into a holiday-themed display that’s sure to make the season feel merrier.
