Amazon has officially brought its upgraded Alexa+ conversational assistant to India, adding support for Hindi alongside English. The new version is designed to hold more natural, extended conversations while remembering context throughout an interaction.
Alexa+ is currently available to customers in India through an Early Access program in both Hindi and English. Once the testing phase ends, Amazon says the service will be available at no additional cost to Prime members. Non-Prime customers will pay ₹2,000 per month, or approximately $20.85.
The upgraded assistant features a more expressive voice and is capable of handling complex, multi-step requests. For example, users can ask Alexa+ to order groceries through Amazon Now or control compatible smart-home devices. The assistant can also switch between Hindi and English during the same conversation.
Alexa+ connects with popular Indian services
Amazon has also integrated Alexa+ with several services that are widely used in India. These include food delivery platforms such as Swiggy, Zomato’s District ticket-booking service, and travel platforms including TripAdvisor and MakeMyTrip.
For dining, Alexa+ can work with EazyDiner, while music integrations include Amazon Music and JioSaavn.
The integrations are designed to allow Alexa+ to go beyond answering questions and actually complete tasks on a user’s behalf.
Amazon had already begun testing Hindi conversations with Alexa+ earlier this year. In June, the company invited selected users in India to participate in an early testing program, followed by testing of an English-language version.
Alexa has been available in India for years
Amazon first introduced Alexa and its Echo devices in India in English in 2017. Hindi support arrived two years later in 2019.
With more than 600 million Hindi speakers in the country, India represents a significant market for Amazon’s voice-assistant technology. The company says its smart-home device business in India has grown by 20% compared with the previous year, although it did not disclose the total number of devices in use.
The addition of Hindi to Alexa+ could help Amazon make its conversational assistant more accessible to a much broader group of Indian users, particularly those who naturally switch between Hindi and English in everyday conversations.
Alexa+ expands beyond traditional voice commands
Unlike the original Alexa experience, Alexa+ is designed around conversational interactions rather than isolated voice commands. Users can have longer discussions with the assistant, ask follow-up questions, and give instructions involving several steps.
For example, instead of simply asking Alexa to play music or turn on a light, users can give a broader request and expect the assistant to coordinate multiple actions.
Amazon first introduced its generative-AI-powered Alexa+ in 2025 before expanding access to users in the United States in 2026. The assistant has since expanded to additional international markets, including the U.K., Canada, Brazil, Mexico, Italy, and Germany, with support adapted to local languages and contexts.
With its India launch, Amazon is now putting greater emphasis on bilingual conversations and integrations with services that are particularly relevant to Indian consumers.
For now, Alexa+ remains in Early Access in India, giving Amazon an opportunity to refine the experience before making it broadly available.
